About WeaverGame.org

WeaverGame.org is a free word ladder game run by a small independent team of word game makers. We launched the site in July 2022, when daily word puzzles were everywhere, with one simple goal: a clean, fast daily ladder that works in any browser without an account. The puzzle itself is much older than us. It goes back to Lewis Carroll, who published it as Doublets in 1879, and you can read that story on our word ladder history page.

We are not the original Weaver and we are not affiliated with the makers of other games called Weaver. WeaverGame.org is our own site, with our own code, word lists and puzzles.

In October 2026 we rebuilt the site and the game from scratch. The rules and the scoring stayed the same, so existing players keep their statistics and streaks, but almost everything around them is new:

• A new design

  A fresh look shared with our other games, distinct colors for the start and end words, a dark theme and a high-contrast option, with the board and keyboard sized to fit a phone screen.

• Five-letter puzzles

  A five-letter daily and five-letter Unlimited alongside the classic four-letter game.

• 19 languages

  Weaver now speaks 19 languages, and each one has its own word list and its own puzzles made from everyday words in that language.

• Archive and hints

  Play any past daily puzzle you missed, and ask for a hint that shows the best next word from wherever you are.

We also added a short interactive tutorial for new players, shareable links for every Unlimited puzzle and our own share buttons.

Every puzzle starts from two everyday words. A program then searches the full word list for the shortest ladder between them, and we only keep pairs whose shortest ladder can also be built from common words, so the optimal route shown after each game is one you could realistically find. The word list itself is deliberately generous: it accepts plurals and verb forms and many less common words, because a player who knows a word should be allowed to use it. Offensive words are kept out of the puzzles.

There is also a free Weaver app for Android, available on Google Play. On iPhones and other devices, the website works straight from the browser; you can add it to your home screen for one-tap access.

WeaverGame.org is free and has no paid tier. The servers and the work are paid for by advertising shown around the game, never inside the board. Our privacy policy explains which ad and analytics services we use and what they do.
